Burn is tissue damage that results from heat, overexposure to the sun or other radiation. It can also happen due to chemical or electrical contact. Burns can be both, minor medical problems or life-threatening emergencies.

  1. The location of the body part that has suffered the burn.
  2. The severity of the damage.

Sun Burns and small scalds are easily treatable at home. On the other hand, deep and widespread burns, need immediate medical attention.

 

SYMPTOMS OF BURN

 

Burn symptoms can vary. It depends on how deep the skin damage is. It can take a day or more than that, for the signs and symptoms of a severe burn to develop.

  1. 1st degree burns: This kind of burn is very minor. It affects only the outer layer of the skin, that is also known as the epidermis. It may cause a little redness and pain.

 

  1. 2nd degree burns: This type of burn affects both, the epidermis as well as the second layer of the skin, which is known as the dermis. It may cause swelling and red and white blotchy skin. In such a type of burn, the skin may develop blisters and the pain can be severe. Deep second degree burns can also cause scarring.

 

  1. 3rd degree burns: This kind of burn is the worst and the most major one. It reaches to the fat layer beneath the skin. The burned areas may be black, brown or white in color. The skin may start to look leathery. Third-degree burns are so severe that they can destroy nerves, which might cause numbness.

Burns can be caused by various factors, such as :

  1. The most common and well-known factor is, burn caused by fire.
  2. Hot liquid or steam can also cause one to burn.
  3. Electrical currents.
  4. Hot metal, glass or other objects.
  5. Sunrays, or other sources of ultraviolet radiation, such as a tanning bed.
  6. Radiation, such as those that come from X-rays.
  7. Chemicals such as strong acids, lye, paint, thinner or gasoline can also cause burns.

 

HOME REMEDIES FOR BURNS.

 

It is very important to know which home remedy is suitable in what kind of burns. Let’s take a look at some of them :   

 

  1. YELLOW MUSTARD

 

Mustard seeds are rich in a counter-irritant compound called allyl isothiocyanate that can relieve pain and improve blood flow to the affected area.

 

How to use :   

 

  • Take 1 tablespoon of yellow mustard.
  • Blend the yellow mustard into a ½ tablespoon of water.
  • Form a paste out of it.
  • Slather the paste gently onto the burned, charred skin.
  • Put this solution, at least thrice in a day, to heal quickly and properly.

 

  1. ALOE VERA

 

Aloe vera gel contains anti-inflammatory and antioxidants properties. It is known for healing burns rapidly. Aloe vera is also antibacterial, and therefore it is helpful in preventing infections on the wounds, it’s scarring and blistering.

 

How to use :   

 

  • Take one teaspoon of aloe vera gel.
  • Apply aloe vera gel to the burned area, evenly.
  • Do this two or three times a day.

 

  1. HONEY

 

Honey is known to be a natural antibiotic. It contains a natural pH balance that prevents the burn from getting infected due to outside bacteria and germs. It also has anti-inflammatory and antioxidants properties, that help to heal burns faster.

How to use :   

 

  • Take two teaspoons of organic honey.
  • Slather it evenly onto the burn.
  • Follow the steps at least three times a day.

 

  1. TOOTHPASTE

 

Toothpaste helps in reducing the pain and helps in soothing down the burning sensation due to its minty nature.

 

How to use :     

 

  • Smear some toothpaste, over your burn.
  • Run it under cold water first.
  • Leave this on for 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Wash it later.
  • Do this once in a day.

 

  1. TEA BAGS

 

Tea is rich in tannic acids that help to draw heat from the burned area. Thus, tea bags are capable of relieving pain and the burning sensation

 

How to use :     

 

  • After Makin your tea, keep the used tea bags aside.
  • Put them in the fridge for a while and allow them to cool.
  • Apply the wet tea bags on the area where you are burned.
  • Use gauze to hold the tea bags in place for 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Do this at least two times daily.

 

  1. BAKING SODA

 

The antiseptic nature of baking soda helps in keeping the burned area infection-free. Baking soda can also help to restore the natural pH balance of your skin and this, in turn, reduces the pain and burning sensation.

 

How to apply :   

  • Take 1 teaspoon of baking soda.
  • Mix it with ½ or 1 tablespoon of water.
  • Mix the baking soda and the water to form a fine paste.
  • Apply this paste, directly to the affected area.
  • Leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes and then wash it off.
  • You must follow this procedure, at least one to two times on a daily basis, to heal the burns quickly.
