Home Remedies For Indigestion

Indigestion occurs because of the disability of the body to digest the food properly. It is a result of poor metabolism. It can cause pain or discomfort in your upper abdomen, which is also known as dyspepsia as well as burning pain or sensation behind the breast bone ( heartburn ).

Dyspepsia or heartburn may occur either together or on their own. Symptoms, usually occur soon after eating or drinking.

There are various other symptoms that are commonly associated with it, such as :

  • Feeling full or bloated.
  • Feeling sick or, in some cases, nauseous.
  • Belching
  • Bringing up or regurgitating fluid or food into the gullet, also known as the esophagus.

Indigestion is a common problem that affects many people, but in most cases, it is very mild and occurs occasionally.

CAUSES OF INDIGESTION

Indigestion may be caused by stomach acid coming into contact with the sensitive, protective lining of the digestive system (mucosa). The stomach acid is known to break down the lining, which leads to irritation and inflammation, which can also be quite painful.

A major amount of people with indigestion do not have inflammation in their digestive system. Therefore, their symptoms can be considered to be caused by an increase in the sensitivity of the mucosa (to acidity or stretching).

In most of the cases, indigestion is related to eating, although it is well known to be triggered by other factors as well, such as smoking, drinking, alcohol, pregnancy, stress or taking certain medications.

The symptoms are, in usual cases, triggered by the stomach acid coming into contact with the mucosa. Stomach acids tend to break down this mucosa, causing irritation and inflammation. This triggers the uncomfortable symptoms of indigestion.

Common causes of indigestion include:

  • eating too much or too rapidly
  • eating fatty, greasy, or spicy foods
  • drinking too much caffeine or alcohol
  • consuming too much chocolate or soda
  • emotional trauma
  • gallstones
  • gastritis, or inflammation of the stomach
  • hiatus hernia
  • infection, especially with a bacteria called Helicobacter pylori( pylori)
  • nervousness
  • obesity
  • pancreatitis, or inflammation of the pancreas
  • peptic ulcers
  • smoking
  • certain medications, such as antibiotics and non – steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. (NSAIDs)
  • stomach cancer
