Hormones are responsible for many small and big activities in our body. These are chemicals that help the organs to perform different functions in the body. One such important hormone is thyroxine, which forms a gland near the throat called the thyroid. If there is any problem in the thyroid gland, then the functions of the body also get disturbed. Many times this thyroid gland starts producing more hormones than the body needs. This condition is known as hyperthyroidism.
The symptoms of hyperthyroidism are similar to the symptoms of common diseases, so it becomes a little difficult to identify them. In this condition, the patient feels hungry but even after taking sufficient food, weight loss can be seen. Apart from this, if symptoms like sleepiness, fatigue are felt, contact the doctor immediately.
Check for hyperthyroidism (over-active thyroid)
Since the effect of hyperthyroidism is on the whole body and due to which your weight starts to decrease without any reason, it can be dangerous for you to ignore it. Keep these things in mind for the treatment of thyroid.
When you go to the doctor, they will check the symptoms you have mentioned, after which you will be sure whether it is a symptom of hyperthyroidism. Irregular heartbeat, sweating, nervousness, excessive heat, weight loss, insomnia are considered to be the main symptoms.
In this investigation, the enlarged thyroid gland, protruding eyes, rashes, pulse movements, trembling hands and muscle weaknesses are detected. Only after this it will be revealed that the patient is a victim of hyperthyroidism.
Blood tests determine the level of thyroid hormone in the blood. From this, the amount of T3 and T4 in the blood is detected. In hyperthyroidism, the level of one or both of these hormones is higher than normal in the blood.
Thyroid antibodies test
This test is used to detect thyroid in pregnant women.
Radioactive iodine test and thyroid scan
This test detects the amount of iodine collected from the blood by the thyroid gland. The amount of iodine in the patient’s thyroid indicates what is the reason behind hyperthyroidism. For example, if iodine is low then it indicates thyroiditis and if iodine is high then it indicates Graves disease. A thyroid scan shows how and where the amount of iodine has reached the thyroid. Hyperthyroidism can be detected by drawing nodules and other possible abnormalities.
